COLON, MI — October 20, 2025 — Colon Athletics is continuing to grow. At the October 20th school board meeting, the board voted to approve the administration’s recommendation to add Girls Varsity Golf, Junior High Baseball, and Junior High Softball to the Colon Jr./Sr. High School athletics lineup. Girls Golf will compete as a varsity-level sport and participate in the MHSAA tournament series beginning in the fall of 2026. Meanwhile, Junior High Baseball and Softball will join as affiliate members of the Southwest 10 Conference (SW10), with their first home doubleheaders scheduled for April 11, 2025. Athletic Director Noah Dooley shared his excitement about the additions: “Monday was a really exciting day. Girls golf is something I’ve felt our community deserved since before my first day here. I’ve been talking about it for a while, so to see it finally approved—it was just really exciting,” Dooley said. “For junior high baseball and softball, I think these programs will do wonders for the overall health of baseball and softball at Colon. I find middle school sports extremely important, and I feel we do a great job providing meaningful opportunities for our young athletes. This is another example of that—an investment into the future of our baseball and softball programs.” With approval secured, Colon Athletics will now begin the search for head coaches to lead these new programs.
