The Colon Track & Field team heads into this weekend’s MHSAA Regional Championships with a strong core of athletes poised to make serious noise. With state qualifying spots on the line—awarded to the top two finishers in each event or those who meet the automatic standard—Colon’s squad is ready to rise to the challenge. Leading the way on the girls' side is junior Lily Preston, who enters the meet as the No. 2 seed in the long jump with a season-best mark of 15 feet, 10¾ inches. Preston has steadily improved throughout the season and will be aiming to crack the 16-foot barrier while earning a ticket to the state finals. Preston will also be on the girls’ 4x100 meter relay, which has emerged as a legitimate contender. The quartet of Ruby Bower, Lily Preston, Sarah Hirschy, and McKenzie Smith is seeded third with a time of 54.03 seconds, putting them right in the mix for a top-two finish and a potential automatic berth. On the boys’ side, Dalton Williams is also in strong position, coming in as the No. 3 seed in the 400 meters with a time of 53.95 seconds. Williams will need to run his best race of the season, but he's within striking distance of the top two and could punch his ticket to states with a breakthrough performance. In the field events, sophomore Jabari Falls has emerged as a powerhouse thrower. He is seeded 2nd in the discus with a mark of 137 feet, and also 2nd in the shot put at 43 feet, 6 inches. With two chances to qualify, Falls has a prime opportunity to advance in both events if he can match or surpass his season bests. With momentum building and the stakes at their highest, Colon Track & Field is locked in and ready to compete. As they take on some of the best in the region, the Magi will be chasing medals, PRs, and the ultimate prize: a spot at the MHSAA State Finals.
