Poised for Progress As the 2025 track and field season begins, the Colon Track & Field program enters the spring with a renewed sense of purpose and quiet determination. This year, the team welcomes a few new athletes as part of a cooperative agreement with Burr Oak. While the partnership brings additional depth to the roster, the team’s identity remains grounded in the commitment and development of its returning core. Today marks the team’s first meet of the season — the Dale Shook Invitational, hosted right here at home. The action kicks off at 4:00 p.m., and everyone is invited to come out and support the athletes as they begin what promises to be an exciting season. Key Returners — Girls Lily Preston (Junior) A standout in both attitude and performance, Lily Preston has become a foundational leader for the Colon program. Her relentless work ethic sets her apart. “She’s worked about as hard as I’ve seen from anyone,” said Head Coach Noah Dooley. “She does what’s asked of her and more, and it’s starting to pay off. As coach and athlete, we both feel like we have something to prove.” Ruby Bower (Junior) Returning as the team’s top sprinter, Ruby Bower is positioned for a strong junior campaign. Her continued physical development and mental focus suggest a breakthrough season may be on the horizon. “The talent has always been there,” said Dooley. “Now it’s about continuing to move her forward. She’s getting better and stronger, which is key for her events.” Athletes to Watch — Boys Wyatt Downs (Senior) A veteran in the throwing events, Downs brings leadership and consistency to the team’s field event squad. His experience will be critical in helping guide younger teammates throughout the season. Jabari Falls (Sophomore) An emerging thrower, Jabari Falls has the potential to become a major contributor in both shot put and discus. As a sophomore, his development is promising, and coaches are excited about his future. Colon Track & Field enters 2025 with a clear focus: steady growth, competitive spirit, and pride in doing things the right way. With a mix of experienced returners and promising young talent, the team is building a culture rooted in effort, accountability, and belief. The season promises to be one of growth, and the Colon coaching staff is excited to see this group continue to rise to the occasion.
